A set of medical equipment and new infrastructure were launched at Kisii Teaching & Referral Hospital by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta who was accompanied by the Deputy President William Ruto and the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health Sicily Kariuki.

The state of the art 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scan machine has been installed at the Kisii Teaching and Hospital to help in specialized scans such as heart and blood vessels, saving locals and even patients from neighboring counties the hustle to travel to Nairobi to seek such services.

The scan is one of the 37 CT Scan machines the Ministry of Health has installed in the country to aid in diagnosis and treatment plan of patients without the need to travel to Nairobi and Eldoret.

Speaking at the event CS for Health thanked the Kisii County Governor James Ongwae for working with the Ministry of Health to put up several infrastructures to ensure health service delivery.

“I urged all Governors to invest in health systems strengthening ahead of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scale up,” she said.

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta also opened a Medical School at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital to strengthen Human Resources for Health, one of the Health Systems blocks required for the Government to attain UHC. The school will produce 30 doctors every year.
