Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha Commits to Planting 50 Million Trees in a Decade

Elgeyo Marakwet, KENYA -  13th November 2023 - Today, Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula led the Ministry of Health and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (Sagas) in a tree-planting exercise across Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties to commemorate the national tree planting day. 

The initiative aims to grow 100 million seedlings nationwide in this exercise. In Elgeyo Marakwet, the CS, joined by Governor Wisley Rotich and Medical Services Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai, achieved a significant milestone by planting 70 thousand trees, contributing to environmental and soil protection. 

During the event, CS Nakhumicha emphasized the Ministry's commitment to planting 50 million trees in the next decade. Both State Departments of the Ministry of Health, including the State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards and the State Department of Medical Services, will contribute by planting 2.5 million trees annually. 

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, led the tree-planting initiative in West Pokot.
