Ministry of Health Addresses Surge in Respiratory Illnesses: Dr. Patrick Amoth Urges Public Vigilance

Nairobi, Kenya - 28th March 2024 -   The Ministry of Health has responded to a recent increase in respiratory infections, particularly noting a rise in influenza cases and continued monitoring of COVID-19 variants. Dr. Patrick Amoth, Ag. Director General for Health, reassures the public of the Ministry's vigilant surveillance systems and advises strict adherence to preventive measures.

Despite reports of respiratory infections, there hasn't been a significant uptick in COVID-19 cases. Dr. Amoth emphasizes the importance of precautionary measures, including avoiding close contact with sick individuals, practicing respiratory and hand hygiene, wearing face masks in public spaces, and considering influenza vaccination. 

 Special attention is advised for vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions. The Ministry underscores the importance of collective efforts in combating respiratory illnesses and urges the public to remain vigilant. 

 Dr. Patrick Amoth reiterates the Ministry's commitment to addressing the current surge in respiratory illnesses and ensuring the health and safety of all Kenyans.
