Transforming Health Systems for Universal Care Project

Nairobi, KENYA May 5, 2018 Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki today held discussions with the new World Bank Country Director, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo. The discussions were centered on strategies for accelerating Universal Health Coverage in the Country.

Currently the World Bank is supporting the Transforming Health Systems, for Universal Health Care Project (THS-UCP). This is a five year Project implemented jointly by the Ministry of Health and Council of Governors. It became effective on September 2016 and will be implemented until September 2021.

The project aims to improve utilization and quality of primary health care (PHC) services with a focus on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services through: Improving access to and demand for quality Public Health Care (PHC) services, strengthening institutional capacity to improve utilization and quality of PHC services and supporting cross-county and intergovernmental collaboration in the counties’ health system.

The Project aspires to mainly benefit women of reproductive age including adolescents, and children under five who utilize PHC services most. The CS is optimistic that the project will yield fruits as it is centered on primary health care which is a key pillar for the Universal Health Coverage agenda.
