REPUBLIC OF KENYA

62 more new cases of Covid 19 Nairobi, Tuesday May 26, 2020

Kenya’s coronavirus situation has risen to 1,348 after 62 new positive cases were reported by the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Health, Dr. Rashid Aman.

He said the cases were drawn from a sample of 2,293 tested in the last 24 hours.  Cumulatively the samples tested stand at 64,264.

Out of the positive cases are 59 Kenyans and three foreigners, aged between six years old for the youngest, and 64 years for the oldest. Out of the 62 positives 45 are males and 17 are women.

The CAS announced that Nairobi county had the highest cases at 23, Mombasa 16, Kwale eight, Kiambu six, Kajiado six and Kitui three cases.

In Nairobi,  Umoja had six cases, Kibra six , Eastleigh three, Dagoretti North two, Langata two, Westlands, Starehe and Embakasi East had one case each while in Mombasa, the cases are from Changamwe nine cases, Jomvu three, Nyali three and Mvita one case.

In Kwale, the cases are from Msambweni four and Lunga lunga four while Kiambu county has five cases from Lari and one case form Ruiru, Kajiado county has four cases from Kajiado Central and Kitui has three cases from Miambani in Kitui Rural.

“We are also happy to report that today we had three discharges of people who have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 405,” he noted.

The CAS also announced that the government has made some good progress in the past two and half months of combating the virus, both in the level of preparedness, and the management of the pandemic. However, he said ” these gains can very easily be eroded if the people do not remain focused, and strictly observe the various containment measures.”

“We are aware that some of our people have been reluctant to present themselves for testing for fear of the treatment cost.  Let me restate once again that the cost of testing, quarantine, isolation and treatment in a Government facility will be fully met by the Government,” Dr. Rashid clarified and urged the people to go for the test.

Today’s COVID-19 briefing was also attended by the CS for Transport, Mr. James Machaira and the CS for EAC and Regional Cooperation Mr. Adan Mohamed.
