Nairobi, KENYA July 12, 2018 – The Cabinet Secretary for Health Sicily Kariuki today received a consignment of anti TB medicines valued at 10 Million Kenya Shillings from the Indian Government.
The consignment was delivered by the High Commissioner for the Republic of India, Suchitra Durai, at Afya House today.
The CS said the donation will foster better outcomes among patients taking anti TB medicines and those with micronutrient deficiency.
She thanked the Government of India for their bequest of the Bhabhatron cancer machine to Kenyatta National Hospital last year. “I also appreciate the assistance to the National and County governments in training of Kenyan doctors and allied staff under the India Africa Forum Summit Framework,” she noted.
The CS disclosed that various stakeholders in Kenya and India are in talks to establish strong Public Private Partnerships in the health sector in the areas of pharmaceutical plants, specialized hospitals and diagnostic centres, including a specialized cancer treatment hospital in the coastal region in the near future.
“This coupled with the Kenyan government’s investment in advanced and well-equipped diagnostic and treatment facilities such as Managed Equipment Services, will moderate the increasing number of Kenyans travelling to India for treatment,” she argued.
