CS Health visits public facilities in Nyeri County

Nyeri, KENYA 20 March 2018 – The Ministry of Health, Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki is in Nyeri County for a fact finding familiarization tour of pubic health facilities. The CS and the area governor Mutahi Kahiga today toured the Nyeri Level 5 county hospital and clarified that 100 doctors the government requested from Cuba are specialists in various medical fields and not just general doctors as perceived. She said “The matter should not be politicized since Kenya will benefit greatly from the foreign doctors services apart from building capacity for the local medics.”
Kenya she argued has a deficiency of specialist doctors and therefore the Cubans will help the government fill the gap. She also urged the county governments to forge collaboration with the national government to enable the country to attain Universal Health Coverage by 2022. She disclosed that through discussions with county governments, plans are underway to recruit unemployed doctors to be absorbed in the public service.
She also advised the members of the public to change their lifestyles and eating habits to curb in order to curb Non Communicable Diseases which, continue to ravage Kenyans and yet,they can be contained with a change of habits.
