The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Sicily Kariuki today held an inaugural meeting with Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Board of Management to deliberate on issues the Board will be required to undertake to improve service delivery at the institution.
The CS advised the Board to offer leadership and guide the management to ensure patient safety and care, to forestall the increasing number of adverse incidents at the facility.
She also urged them to ensure strict enforcement of the referral system as provided in the Kenya Health Sector referral strategy.
“This is critical in addressing congestion of KNH and also facilitating efficiency in service delivery,” she stressed.
She noted that Kenyatta National Hospital requires significant amount of resources to undertake its mandate effectively and instructed the Board to work on filling the human resource gaps, improve resource mobilization for the facility and ensure audit compliance and proper asset management.
