CS Mailu leads delegates to UHC forum in Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan 13 November 2017– The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Cleopa Mailu, is leading the Kenyan delegation to attend the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Forum in Tokyo, Japan.  The UHC Forum 2017 which is taking place at Tokyo Prince Hotel from 12-17 December 2017 is jointly organized by the Government of Japan, in collaboration with the World Bank, World Health Organisation, UNICEF and JICA.

The forum comes after the Nairobi declaration made during TICAD VI in August 2016 where Kenya provided a unique opportunity for the African countries to take stock of progress towards UHC and pandemic preparedness, discuss different pathways of reform and agree on critical actions. As one of the follow up items of the Nairobi Declaration, the Government of Japan agreed to co-host the first high-level UHC monitoring meeting in Tokyo in December 2017 to track the progress of UHC.

The UHC 2017 forum agenda focuses on Making Progress towards UHC and Improving Health Security, Strengthening Health Workforce, Financing UHC, Community-based Approach towards UHC, Access to medicine, Improving Quality and Efficiency, increasing Resilience of Health Systems: Integrating pandemic preparedness with strengthening health systems towards UHC and Stocktaking of platforms, partnerships and initiatives to assist countries to accelerate UHC and pandemic preparedness among others.
