The Ministry of Health CS Sicily Kariuki, today attended the WHO Global Management meeting graced by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta at Safari Park hotel.

The Global management meeting is the first to be held outside WHO headquarters in Geneva and Kenya was selected to host it.

About 300 delegates including the WHO Director General, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, directors from WHO headquarters, Regional Directors from five continents and Country representatives of member states from across the World were in attendance.

The CS lauded the WHO for choosing Kenya as the first country to host the global management meeting that serves as a curtain raiser for the UHC Pilot Launch in Kenya

She also acknowledged the constant engagement and collaboration with WHO who have provided much needed technical support in developing the UHC roadmap and the Health benefits package.

“As a Ministry of Health we will continue to build partnerships with all stakeholders as we roll out UHC, in full realization that we cannot go it alone,” she emphasized.

She revealed that the Ministry of Health has adopted a pragmatic approach that leverages on efficiency gains and investing in the public health sector while harnessing multi-sectoral participation and collaboration.

“It is my hope that we can count on WHO’s support as we take this bold step forward,” she noted.
