Deputy President William Ruto launches implementation of UHC in Nandi County. Monday September 23, 2018

Deputy President Hon William Ruto today launched the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nandi County.

Ruto also opened an operating theatre, renal and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units at Kapsabet Level V Hospital as part of efforts towards UHC in the County.

“The equipping of hospitals with modern machines, medicine supplies and improving infrastructure provides access to quality services. It ensures early, proper diagnosis and effective treatment resulting in a healthy population,” he noted.

Speaking at the event, Health PS Eng. Peter Tum said the Ministry was lucky to be given the responsibility to steer the UHC agenda in the country, which would transform the healthcare provision in the country.

He said that the Ministry was working with counties to strengthen health systems in the country, adding that the launch of pilot in four counties of Isiolo, Nyeri, Machakos and Nyeri would be held in November 2018.

He joined other leaders at the event to commend the County of Nandi for launching the agenda, saying they had become the first county in the country to do so.

Nandi County Governor Hon Stephen Sang said county governments were committed to ensuring successful implementation of the Government’s Big Four agenda- manufacturing, healthcare, food security and affordable housing.
