Engaging the Private Sector in Primary Health Care to Achieve universal health coverage

Eldoret, KENYA, 15th February 2017 – The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health Sicily Kariuki today met with the Kenyan Health Donors group dubbed Development Partners in Health Kenya (DPHK) at Crown Plaza Hotel and assured them of her personal commitment to ensure prudent utilization of Funds.

The CS revealed that an internal framework for Development Partners Coordination will be established in the coming week.

She lauded the County Governors for the commitment they have demonstrated in carrying the Universal Health Coverage vision observing that for populations in the Northern Frontier Counties to easily access quality healthcare, more remains to be done in terms of strengthening the health systems.

The CS was accompanied by the Ministry Chief Administration Secretary, Dr. Rashes Aman, the outgoing Principal Secretary, Mr. Julius Korir, the Director of Medical Services , Dr. Jackson Kioko and senior ministry officials.

The PS commended the Development Partners for providing 1/3 of the Ministry of Health budget. “Through this collaboration, the Ministry has been able achieve better health outcomes for Kenyans,” he observed.

All the Development Partners commended His Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta for prioritizing Universal Health Coverage as one of the four priorities of his government in the next five years.  “The Development Sector is energized by this commitment,” they argued.
