Govt. to hire 500 doctors to improve quality care

NAIROBI, Kenya 20 March 2017- The recruitment process to hire 500 doctors from the East African region has already commenced and hopeful they will start working by April.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Cleopa Mailu, said the Government is operating within the law to hire the doctors from Tanzania who shall be distributed across the country to boost the doctor patient ratio and improve the quality of care for Kenyans.

I want to emphasize that the medics will not require double registration since countries within the EA carry out joint inspection of training schools and even registration and can therefore work in either of the countries,’’ said the CS.

Speaking during a fact finding tour of Kenyatta National Hospital on Monday the CS also revealed that plans are underway to hire specialized doctors from Cuba to ease the suffering of Kenyans especially in the area of cancer care.

He dismissed the claims by Kenyan doctors that there are jobless doctors on the street. “ I want to make it clear that doctors are the only cadre of public servants that are absorbed by the Government directly after training and no one should lie to the public that there are doctors on the street. ‘’Kenyans want services, they do not want debate,” the CS said.
