The Cabinet Secretary for Health Sicily Kariuki is urging County Governments to strengthen delivery of health services through continuous and sustained investments in Primary Health Care Services to ensure very Kenyan have access to affordable, quality health care.

Speaking in in Kitui County during the launch of Universal Health Coverage Programme, the CS said the National Government is committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage which is demonstrated in its dedication to designing a revolutionized health sector that ensures that all people have access to high quality health services without suffering financial hardships.

The CS encouraged Kenyans to pre-pay for their health by enrolling into health schemes and health insurance programs.

For social health protection, the CS said the government has made available subsidies for the poor, elderly and for persons with severe disabilities at a cost of Kshs 3.2 billion and a further Kshs 4.2 billion for the Linda Mama program.

She expressed the need for continuous stakeholder engagement through public private partnerships that will strengthen relationships and ensure that all key players work in harmony in seeking improved health care provision, increased member registration and retention for improved access to health coverage.

All health sector stakeholders including County Governments will therefore play a critical role in delivery of accessible and sustainable quality health services, she emphasized.

She added Government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is part of the Sustainable Development Goals and Kenya’s development aspirations for the next four years.

“Kitui County Insurance Cover is a step in the greater efforts to ensure increased access to health services in all public health facilities in Kitui among other benefits,” he noted.
