Nairobi, Kenya April 29, 2019 – The Government is considering giving incentives to local pharmaceutical companies to enhance their capacity to manufacture quality and affordable essential drugs to meet the local demand and the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki said the government will look at taxation to procure more commodities from them from the current 20 percent.
“This will boost the capacity of local manufacturers and create more employment opportunities for the economy and facilitate technology and skills transfer,” the CS said after touring the Universal Corporation Ltd, a local manufacturing pharmaceutical company in Kikuyu town, Kiambu county today.
She was accompanied by the Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Rashid Aman, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. F. M. Siyoi and KEMSA CEO, Dr. Yona Mwangi among others.
