Health Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum has officially opened two curative units at a health facility in Bomet County.
The radiology and theatre units at Adanai Health Centre, both under the National Government’s Medical Equipment Services, were opened on 15th February 2019.
The radiology unit, which started two years ago, has already conducted 2000 X-rays and 200 ultra sounds, which previously used to be referred far away to Longisa Referral Hospital and Tenwek Mission Hospital. The new theatre unit will start operating immediately, with both units saving patients time and money.
Opened in 1970, the Health Centre was selected alongside Longisa Referral Hospital for the MES project in Bomet County. With a catchment population of 15,000 from the three counties of Bomet, Nyamira and Narok, it is now a Level Three health facility.
The PS lauded the MES initiative, saying it would help Government achieve its goals of universal health coverage for all Kenyans by 2022.
“Count yourselves lucky to have this project at this hospital, as it is only in 98 facilities in Kenya,” said the PS to the residents during a speech after the launch of the units.
