Health systems on high alert following Ebola alert in the DRC
Nairobi, Kenya, May 12, 2018 – Health CS Sicily Kariuki has affirmed that the
Ministry of Health has put health systems on high alert following reports of Ebola
outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
She said the ministry has strengthened the routine screening of travelers at the
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Busia, Malaba, Namanga, Wilson
Airport and all other points of entry. "In all these places, the ministry has installed
electronic and hand-gun thermo scanners and other support systems.” She
confirmed.
The CS made the remarks today when she inspected preparedness of health and
other officers at the JKIA accompanied by her Tourism counterpart Najib Balala.
She reiterated that no case of Ebola has been detected in the country, adding that in
order to mitigate the threat; the ministry has established the National Health
Emergency Council, whose role is, among others, to act expeditiously to prevent
importation of Ebola virus disease or any other diseases of Public Health threat
into Kenya.
