Kenya hosts the Regional Quantification Workshop on TB Medicines
Nairobi , 2024 This week, Kenya hosts the Regional Quantification Workshop on TB Medicines, gathering representatives from 17 Anglophone and Francophone countries. The workshop aims to enhance the capacity for quantifying tuberculosis (TB) medicines and diagnostic commodities to ensure a sustained supply, addressing one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
Mary Muthoni, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, opened the meeting. She emphasized the urgency of their collective effort, stating, "Tuberculosis remains a critical public health challenge. By working together, we can strengthen our systems and ensure that quality-assured medicines are accessible to all who need them."
The PS highlighted the importance of collaboration, saying, "Sharing best practices in procurement and supply planning will enhance our ability to respond effectively to TB. This workshop is a vital step in our fight against this disease."
She also stressed the need for community engagement, remarking, "Engaging communities is essential to ensure that those affected by TB receive the care and support they need. Our health systems must be resilient and responsive."
PS Muthoni called for commitment to advancing TB prevention and control efforts across the region and a collective resolve to improve health outcomes for those impacted by the disease.
