Makueni Gets Modern Maternal and Newborn Care Units as Kenya Expands EWENE Programme
MAKUENI - - The State Department for Medical Services has completed the construction and equipping of modern Maternal and Newborn Care Units at Kikumini and Kako Health Centres in Makueni County. The two facilities are among 20 being upgraded through a resource mobilization partnership with the Government of Finland, complementing more than 300 other maternal and newborn care facilities directly funded by the Government of Kenya across various counties, all under the leadership of His Excellency President William Ruto.
This investment advances the EWENE Rapid Results Initiative launched on , targeting an 80 per cent reduction in maternal mortality by 2028. It also delivers on the primary healthcare benefit package under the Social Health Authority, backed by an allocation of KES 19.1 billion, ensuring services are provided in facilities that are fully built, fully equipped, and ready to serve.
