Ministry Seeks Enhanced Funding for Public Health Priorities
Nairobi, Kenya - - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale
The Cabinet Secretary outlined the Ministry’s priorities under the Taifa Care Model, noting that the framework is anchored on preventive and promotive healthcare, health policy and regulation, sector coordination, and the delivery of priority health interventions under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
He emphasized the importance of increased investment in human resources for health and the consistent supply of essential medical commodities to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The CS further noted that the growing burden of disease and emerging public health threats continue to place pressure on the health system, highlighting the need for strengthened investment in disease surveillance, emergency preparedness and response, sanitation and hygiene, and broader public health reforms.
He also urged the Committee to safeguard critical health interventions, including immunization programmes, from budget reductions during supplementary budget adjustments in order to sustain gains made in protecting the health and wellbeing of Kenyans.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms Mary Muthoni, Ministry Directors, Chief Executive Officers, and Technical Heads.
