MoH Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Pharmaceutical Regulation and Digital Health Transformation

Nairobi, Kenya - - The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening pharmaceutical regulation, advancing digital transformation and supporting local manufacturing as key pillars in the delivery of quality healthcare and Universal Health Coverage.

Speaking during the official opening of the 46th Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya Annual Scientific Conference 2026, Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale said the Government is implementing reforms aimed at improving access to quality health services, ensuring medicine safety and strengthening health systems.

He announced the rollout of three national digital platforms — the National Track and Trace System, Practice360 and Facility360 — which will become operational on  to improve transparency, supply chain visibility, patient safety and curb substandard medical products.

The conference brought together more than 800 pharmaceutical professionals, policymakers, regulators, researchers and industry leaders under the theme “Pharmacists Leading Transformation and Innovation Towards the Highest Attainable Standards of Health.”

Hon. Duale noted that pharmacists remain critical in medication safety, disease prevention, pharmacovigilance, antimicrobial stewardship, supply chain management, research and innovation.

He further reaffirmed Government support for the Pharmacy and Poisons Board’s pursuit of WHO Maturity Level 3 status, noting that the milestone will enhance Kenya’s regulatory credibility, support innovation and position the country as a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory hub in Africa.

The conference also discussed the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere initiative, the Rapid Results Initiative and the Kenya Health Products and Technologies Local Manufacturing Strategy 2026–2030.

Present were Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, KEMSA CEO Dr. Erjesa Waqo, DHA Acting CEO Eng. Antony Lenayara, KRA Board Chairperson Mr. Ndiritu Muriithi, PPB Chairperson Dr. John Munyu and PSK President Dr. Wairimu Mbogo.
