PS Muthoni leads efforts to strengthen governance, stewardship, and capacity within the health sector.

Nairobi , 2024 The 3rd Round Table Consultative Meeting with Chairpersons and CEOs of Health Training and Regulatory Agencies, chaired by Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, focused on strengthening governance, stewardship, and capacity within the health sector. A central theme was the ongoing assessment of governance structures, systems, and processes across 14 health regulatory agencies. This evaluation seeks to identify capacity gaps and develop targeted improvement plans to modernize and streamline Kenya’s regulatory framework.

PS  Muthoni emphasized the need for strong leadership and accountability within health training and regulatory bodies. "Our commitment to improving healthcare delivery begins with ensuring that our regulatory agencies have the right structures and processes in place. We must be forward-thinking in our approach to governance and oversight."

She also highlighted the importance of compliance with government circulars on board management and succession planning, noting, "Strengthening our regulatory systems is essential not just for efficient service delivery but also for achieving Universal Health Coverage. It is through robust governance that we can enhance the effectiveness of Primary Health Care Networks across the country."
