PS Leads Mpox Preparedness Assessments at Illasit and Namanga Border Posts
Illasit and Namanga, , 2024 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, led comprehensive assessments of Mpox preparedness at the Illasit border post in Loitoktok and the Namanga One-Stop Border Point in Kajiado County.
The visits focused on evaluating the capacity of these busy border points to handle potential Mpox outbreaks. Key areas of assessment included the readiness of health personnel, the availability of diagnostic tools and the level of coordination between border control officers and local health teams. Given the high volume of cross-border movement, ensuring robust screening and response measures is critical to preventing the spread of the disease.
“As the movement of people across our borders continues to increase, we must remain vigilant and ensure that our systems are ready to manage any public health threats,” PS Muthoni said. “Early detection, timely reporting, and swift containment are essential to preventing the spread of infectious diseases like Mpox.”
The Ministry of Health is working closely with county governments and other agencies to strengthen preparedness at all border points. These assessments are part of a broader national strategy to bolster Kenya’s public health infrastructure and protect communities in high-traffic areas.
