Kenya's Health Workforce Grows as 21,261 KMTC Students Graduate Across 87 Campuses

𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢, 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 - 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, joined H.E. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki today at the graduation ceremony of 21,261 students from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) across its 87 campuses. 

The theme for this year, “Developing a Fit-for-Purpose Health Workforce for the Achievement of Local and Global Health Goals,” directly aligns with Kenya’s ambitious Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda. 

 The new graduates are poised to make a significant impact on Primary Health Care, a core component of UHC, ensuring that all Kenyans have access to essential healthcare services. 

Dr. Barasa emphasized that under the leadership of President William Ruto, Kenya has made remarkable progress in healthcare, with key initiatives such as the Community Health Promoters, the Social Health Authority, and the Social Health Insurance Fund playing pivotal roles in making quality healthcare affordable for every Kenyan. 

 The CS also highlighted KMTC’s global impact, with the institution supporting 6,588 applications for international placements, reinforcing the global demand for Kenya’s skilled health professionals. 

 Also in attendance were Principal Secretary for Public Health, Mary Muthoni; KMTC Board Chairman, Joseah Cheruiyot; KMTC CEO, Dr. Kelly Oluoch figures in the health sector.
