PS Mary Muthoni Leads Commemoration of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

, 2025 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni,  led the commemoration of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to shifting from a curative focus to prevention and health promotion. She highlighted the deployment of Community Health Promoters as a key strategy in bringing essential cancer services closer to communities.

Speaking in Nyandarua County, PS Muthoni announced the kick-off of the National Cervical Cancer Elimination Action Plan development, in collaboration with ThinkWell. This initiative will include a costed action plan, an investment case, and an advocacy framework to drive Kenya toward its 2030 cervical cancer elimination goal.

She further noted that Kenya is among three African countries implementing the WHO AFRO Women Integrated Cancer Services (WICS) project, which strengthens prevention, early detection, and management of breast and cervical cancers, NCDs, and mental health through an integrated primary healthcare approach.

“As we mark the climax of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, our fight against cervical cancer does not end here. Early screening, HPV vaccination, and timely treatment save lives. Let’s continue raising awareness and ensuring that no woman is left behind in accessing essential cancer services,” said PS Muthoni.
