Hon. Duale Commissions Modern Health Infrastructure in Lamu to Advance UHC

Lamu, ๐Š๐ž๐ง๐ฒ๐š โ€“ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ‘, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has officially unveiled a series of critical health infrastructure upgrades at King Fahad Hospital in Lamu County, including an oxygen plant, a 5-bed ICU, the Timamy Suites, and a 128-slice Fuji CT Scan, delivered under Phase I of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP) as part of efforts to accelerate the rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

These investments reaffirm the governmentโ€™s commitment to ensuring that specialized, high-quality care is accessible across all regions of Kenya, including historically underserved areas. The newly launched CT scan is the hospitalโ€™s first state-of-the-art diagnostic unit, positioning Lamu among the first counties to benefit directly from the upgraded diagnostic and theatre capabilities under NESP.

Additional equipment, including a mammogram and MRI machine, is scheduled for delivery in July.

Through NESPโ€™s fee-for-service model, the Ministry of Health is enhancing long-term sustainability, easing financial pressure on counties, and transitioning from centralized procurement to a county-led, demand-driven system tailored to actual facility needs bringing essential diagnostic services closer to the communities that need them most.
