Over 23 Million Kenyans Now Enrolled Under Taifa Care as Rollout Accelerates

𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢, 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 - 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

Kenya’s Taifa Care health scheme has surpassed 23.6 million enrollees, marking a major milestone in the country’s Universal Health Coverage agenda, Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale announced 

“As of 12:30 pm , we have 23,674,672 Kenyans enrolled in Taifa Care. This includes over 28,000 new registrations  alone,” said CS Duale.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has also conducted means testing for 5.48 million people to ensure contributions are aligned with income levels, and now works with 9,365 healthcare facilities, comprising 5,219 public, 3,650 private, and 496 faith-based institutions.

Service uptake is already transforming lives:
•3.6 million Kenyans have accessed free primary care under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF).
•2.1 million Kenyans have received specialized services under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
•SHIF has supported 400,000 dialysis sessions, 19,509 imaging services, 17,377 cancer treatments, 360,435 normal deliveries, and 116,408 caesarean sections.

“These figures represent lives saved, mothers supported, and dignity restored in healthcare,” said the CS.

SHA has disbursed KES 5.4 billion in PHC claims and KES 43.8 billion in SHIF claims, with KES 1.2 billion set to be paid to facilities  for the month of May alone.

The CS made the remarks during a media briefing  accompanied by Principal Secretaries Dr Ouma Oluga (Medical Services) and Ms Mary Muthoni (Public Health), CEO SHA Dr. Dr Mercy Mwangangi, CEO Dr Ejersa Wako, CEO DHA Eng. Antony Lenaiyara, Director General of Health Dr Patrick Amoth among other ministry officials.
