President Ruto Unveils Universal Health Coverage Plan: Free Healthcare for All Kenyans
Kericho, Kenya - - President William Ruto made a groundbreaking announcement that is set to transform healthcare in Kenya. During this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kericho Green Stadium, he unveiled the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) plan, ensuring that every Kenyan will have access to free healthcare services at all Level 1, 2, and 3 dispensaries and health centers across the nation.
In a resounding commitment, President Ruto stated, "At all Level 1, 2, and 3 dispensaries and health centers, every Kenyan will get treatment for free. The bill will be covered by the government through the Primary Health Care Fund."
This move aims to guarantee that no Kenyan is left behind when it comes to healthcare.
President Ruto's vision goes beyond just providing free healthcare. He intends for Kenyans to actively participate in the day-to-day operation and management of health centers within their communities.
He explained, "Kenyans will be included in the running of those facilities. You will have a committee to resolve issues in dispensaries and health centers within your communities, such as the availability of medicine and healthcare personnel.
We have to put an end to the present situation where people have to travel long distances in search of essential drugs."
Furthermore, President Ruto emphasized that all health centers will have their own dedicated funds, ensuring they are adequately equipped to meet the needs of their respective communities.
Unlike the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), the contributions for UHC will be income-dependent, ensuring affordability for all. Those without the means to pay will receive treatment at government hospitals at no cost.
President Ruto left no room for doubt, saying, "No Kenyan will be left behind in this agenda.
The cards we are going to issue will not have a limit, and if the limit is reached, then the Chronic Illness Fund will kick in, and one will be attended to."
These declarations came just a day after President Ruto assented to four health bills, reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling his campaign pledges and revolutionizing the healthcare system in Kenya.
