PS Engages Civil Society in Strategic Nutrition and Sanitation Partnerships
Nairobi , 2024 Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, earlier , convened a pivotal meeting with representatives from the Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance (SUNCSA), representing over 400 organizations, including Nutrition International (NI), CARE Kenya, World Vision, and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
Key discussions centered around Kenya's preparation to participate in the Nutrition for Growth that will take place in France early next year, to review on the progress made on commitments made during the last summit in 2022. The Alliance seeks to combat malnutrition and promote healthier eating habits in Kenya. The meeting also focused on forging strategic partnerships within the public health sector and outlined plans for an upcoming public health summit that will gather key stakeholders to address pressing health issues.
A major point of the conversation was the Epuka Uchafu initiative, a public health campaign aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. The PS and SUNCSA explored innovative strategies to ensure communities living in hard to reach areas benefit from essential health services, including access to proper sanitation and affordable nutritious products.
