PS Oluga discusses health workforce development with global health workforce expert
London, - Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, held discussions with Prof. Jim Campbell, former Director of Health Workforce at the World Health Organization and now Director, Trustee and Professor of Practice in Healthcare Workforce at King’s College London, on the sidelines of the 5th Anniversary of the Kenya–United Kingdom Health Alliance meeting.
The engagement reaffirmed a long-standing collaboration in advancing health workforce development and global health workforce policy. Over the years, both have contributed to the development of key international frameworks, including the WHO Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030, the WHO Global Health and Care Worker Compact and the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel.
The discussions focused on strengthening Kenya’s health workforce through investments in technology-enabled simulation training to enhance specialised skills in transplantation and critical care. The approach aims to accelerate the translation of advanced clinical knowledge into practice at national referral hospitals, strengthen specialist training and expand access to high-quality specialised healthcare services.
The meeting underscored the Ministry of Health’s commitment to building a skilled and resilient health workforce as a cornerstone of Universal Health Coverage and the delivery of quality healthcare for all Kenyans.
