Ministry calls on employers to establish lactation stations at work place
The Acting Director, Medical Services Preventive and Promotive Health, Dr. Pacifica Onyancha has called upon employers in the Country to establish work place lactation stations to facilitate babies breastfeeding.
Dr Onyancha made the remarks at the department of Family Health during the launch of a model lactation station for the department.
She underscored the salient benefits of exclusive breast feeding for the first 6 months of an infants life saying it helps children from contracting common childhood illnesses.
According to research breast feeding helps mothers to reduce weight, bond with their children and in family panning.
Dr. Onyancha notes that the Health Act 2017 provides for every institution whether government or otherwise to have a lactation station for the wellbeing of the mother and child.
It was also noted that community health workers will soon start getting their monthly stipends from the government as they are key in driving the primary health care and by extension the Universal Health Coverage.
The launch was attended by officials from the civil society, development partners and the community.
