PS Health calls for strong collaborations to achieve Universal health coverage

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 11, 2017 – The Principal Secretary for Health, Mr. Julius Korir has called for strong collaborations to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

The PS said he intend to focus on strengthening and sustaining existing linkages between the National Government and the County Governments to ensure Kenyans attain their right to health.

“We need to enhance the quality of care and to ensure that universal standards apply to all counties, said the PS on Wednesday during the 10th Health Sector Intergovernmental Consultative Forum.

“This can be partly achieved by increasing the ratio of health workers to the population countrywide, as well as reducing the regional disparities in the distribution of health workers,” stressed Mr. Korir.

He noted that the ministry will continuously engage the County Governments to find lasting solutions to the labour issues in the health sector including the management of interns.

He also called for strengthened regulatory agencies; innovations in health services; revitalization of the Social Protection programmes and fast tracking of health financing strategy towards Universal Health Coverage and regular strategy meetings with key health sector stakeholders in areas such as Human Resources and Health Financing.
