PS Health leads Thai tour of UHC pilot in Machakos County, Machakos (Kenya) March 23, 2019













On Friday 22, the Principal Secretary for Health, Susan Mochache took the Minister of Public Health, Thailand Prof. Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsyadorn and delegation on a tour of public health facilities piloting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Machakos County.
The PS said Kenya is partnering with the Thailand to ensure the pilot program in the four pilot counties of Kisumu, Machakos, Nyeri and Isiolo is rolled out successfully in the other 43 counties.
She noted that the UHC pilot is on course and advised the patients not to pay for drugs at the hospitals under the UHC pilot.
The Thai minister praised Kenya for successfully launching the UHC pilot program and urged the county governments to invest more resources in Human Resources for health to make UHC a reality.
The Thai delegation visited Mavoko Level 3 public health centre and the Machakos Level 5 Hospital to experience how the UHC programme is working.
The PS said Kenya and Thailand have a memorandum of understanding and an plan of action on Universal Health Coverage. Areas of focus are capacity building, research and Health Technology assessment.
The PS thanked the County Government of Machakos for the job well done and pledged to work the council of governors to ensure the referral system works.
