PS Health roots for a regional approach to address health challenges

Arusha, Tanzania, June 8, 2017 – The Principal Secretary for Health, Mr. Julius Korir is calling on EAC partner states to adopt a regional approach to address the regions health challenges more effectively.
The PS stated that previous and ongoing outbreaks of Ebola in West Africa and the DRC are a strong reminder that diseases have the capability to transcend the boundaries of any one community or Country.
“As neighboring Partner States, we share common health problems by virtue of our geographical location and it’s only through regional approach that partner states can realize individual and common social and development aspirations,” argued Mr. Korir during the opening of the 1st Extra Ordinary Council of Health Ministers meeting on Thursday.

The PS challenged the partner states to capitalize upcoming 1st EAC Summit on Health Investment to be held in Uganda this year, to think around Sustainable Healthcare Financing and how to provide Universal Health Coverage for the Citizens of the community by the year 2030.

“In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, I urge each one of us to embrace the spirit of collaboration and partnerships in order to leverage on available resources from both the Public and Private sectors at our disposal,” he stressed.
