NAIROBI, Kenya July 23, 2018 – The Cabinet Secretary for Health Sicily Kariuki has called upon the County commissioners to spearhead enrollment of members of the public to the National Hospital Insurance Fund to enable them benefit from the social health services.

Addressing the officers during a one-day seminar organized by the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government at the School of Government today, the CS acknowledged the important role played by regional and county commissioners in assisting the government achieve its development agenda.

‘’I recognize the important role you play at the grassroots level especially in engaging with the members of the public. I therefore urge you to work closely with NHIF officers in your respective areas of jurisdiction in facilitating registration of the public to the national health insurance cover,’’ she said.

The CS noted that the aim of Universal Health Coverage is to enable all Kenyans to access quality health services with minimum contribution to the national health insurance cover and reduction of out of pocket expenditure for those seeking services.

She acknowledged that Non-Communicable Diseases such as Tuberculosis, cancers, heart and respiratory diseases kill more than 40,000 Kenyans and urged the commissioners to teach the public the dangers of alcoholism, tobacco use and teach them to feed on traditional foods to curb diseases.

In attendance were the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and Coordination of Government Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Information, Communications and Technology CS Joe Mucheru and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet among others.
