14th ATFFND Meeting in Mombasa Addresses Africa's Nutrition Challenges

Mombasa, Kenya - 3rd April 2024 - ย The 14th African Task Force on Food and Nutrition Development (ATFFND) meeting, currently underway in Mombasa sinceย April 2nd, 2024, presents a pivotal opportunity for stakeholders to confront the pressing nutrition issues facing Africa.ย 

Hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the Government of Kenya, this gathering has convened key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies and policies aimed at bolstering food security and nutrition across the continent.ย 

Themed "Collaborating for Effective Implementation of the African Union Nutrition Policies and Strategies," the meeting places a spotlight on fostering collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the implementation of nutrition policies and strategies across Africa.ย 

A significant aspect ofย today's proceedings includes a parallel discussion on adolescent nutrition held during the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Consultation. This session is specifically designed to address challenges related to anaemia in women, children, and adolescents, with the aim of establishing a consensus on the necessity of a Continental Adolescent Nutrition Strategy.ย 

The event has attracted participants from different backgrounds, including AU member states, AUC Departments, the African Union Development Agency, Regional Economic Communities, African Development Bank, UN Agencies, Intergovernmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, and academia.
