AAR Hospital Achieves SafeCare Level 5 Certification as Health CS Duale Reinforces Push for Quality and Patient Safety

Nairobi, Kenya -  - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting patient dignity and strengthening quality and efficiency across Kenya’s healthcare system, with a renewed emphasis on enforcing the Social Health Authority (SHA) bed-capacity access rule.

Speaking during the SafeCare Level 5 accreditation ceremony for AAR Hospital’s outpatient centres—a globally recognised benchmark of excellence in quality and patient safety—the CS underscored that the government remains resolute in restoring public trust and reinforcing safety as the country advances towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The accreditation crowns a multi-year process of continuous improvement and rigorous evaluation against SafeCare standards. Earlier, in , AAR Healthcare secured ISO 15189:2022 international laboratory accreditation, further affirming its commitment to internationally benchmarked clinical quality.

The CS noted that this achievement will strengthen patient safety, elevate the quality of care, enhance stakeholder confidence, and improve operational efficiency through streamlined, cost-effective service delivery—key pillars of the 5th Administration’s UHC agenda.

He called for urgent action to curb rising maternal and newborn mortality rates, now a national priority, stressing the relevance of AAR’s progress to this effort. “Better outcomes demand skilled personnel, reliable equipment and blood supplies, and strong infection control—all central to the SafeCare accreditation process,” he said.

Seven of AAR’s twenty-one outpatient centres have now attained the highest SafeCare certification level, illustrating how private-sector excellence can reinforce national health priorities and advance the objectives of the forthcoming Quality Healthcare and Patient Safety Bill, 2025.

During a guided tour of the 150-bed hospital—which houses a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Dialysis departments—the CS commended the facility’s significant investment in modern equipment, clinical excellence, and integrated digital systems that uphold patient safety and quality of care.

He was hosted by the facility’s leadership, led by CEO Dr Aysha Edwards, alongside World Medical Association President, Dr Jacqueline Kitulu.
