Building upon the fruitful discussions of the previous day, participants are striving towards tangible outcomes aimed at enhancing the continent's nutrition landscape.

Today's discussions underscored the significance of adopting a comprehensive life cycle approach to nutrition, with a particular emphasis on tackling persistent issues like overweight and obesity.ย

These challenges are compounded by factors such as climate change, conflicts, and the enduring impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and nutrition.ย

Participants are actively engaged in exploring bottom-up approaches and multi-sectoral strategies to effectively address these challenges.

A cornerstone of this approach lies in prioritizing investment in children's nutrition during their critical formative years (0-5), essential for promoting optimal physical and cognitive development.ย

Similarly crucial is addressing the nutritional needs of adolescents, recognizing the profound influence of their dietary and lifestyle choices on long-term health outcomes.

Today's discussions also highlighted the importance of aligning initiatives with commitments made by the African Union (AU), emphasizing the need for collaboration and coordination across regional and continental levels.ย

ย In addition to delving into key topics such as the Progress Report on Continental Initiatives, Nutrition Outlook in Africa Post 2025, and the 2nd African Union Continental Nutrition Report, the second day of the ATFFND meeting saw focused discussions on practical measures to strengthen the Africa Regional Nutrition Strategy (2016-2025) and address emerging challenges, including anaemia in women, children, and adolescents.ย

ย The Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Consultation provided a valuable platform for discussing adolescent nutrition, health, and well-being, with a view to formulating actionable recommendations.
