Advancing innovation for Universal Health Coverage 

Nairobi , 2024 Principal Secretaries Harry Kimtai of Medical Services and Mary Muthoni of Public Health and Professional Standards  joined the Japanese Ambassador  to Kenya H.E Okaniwa Ken at the Japanese Medical Equipment and Health Services event.  The  session  highlighted the vital role of partnerships in advancing innovation for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The event emphasized the recently signed Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU) between Kenya’s Ministry of Health and Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, under the Africa Health and Wellbeing Initiative. This partnership focuses on key areas such as improving sanitation, promoting healthy lifestyles, and enhancing early disease detection and healthcare infrastructure.

In their remarks, both Principal Secretaries reaffirmed the government’s commitment to UHC. Secretary Kimtai emphasized Kenya’s determination to strengthen healthcare systems, ensuring that innovative technologies reach underserved communities. Secretary Muthoni highlighted Kenya’s focus on preventive health and the importance of adopting Japan’s expertise in health promotion to improve the well-being of citizens.

This collaboration not only draws on Japan’s experience and Kenya’s UHC aspirations but also solidifies a joint commitment to delivering affordable, cutting-edge healthcare solutions across the country, with a particular focus on reaching the most remote areas. Both leaders affirmed that this partnership marks a critical step forward in transforming Kenya’s healthcare landscape and achieving a healthier future for all.
