Aligning functions to the government strategic direction on health

Naivasha, , 2023 The functions of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards include: implementation of public health and sanitation policy, preventive and promotive health services, policy on human Resources Development for healthcare workers, health education management and reproductive health among others.

To deliver on the State Department's mandate, all the Directorates, parastatals, regulatory bodies and divisions need to synergize their efforts towards a common goal.

Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni Muriuki HSC, today convened a retreat of Head of Directorates, Divisions and Parastatal Heads in the State Department. The purpose of the meeting was for the officers to familiarise themselves with each other and their various functions in view identifying the various areas of divergence and convergence to seamless service delivery.

To enhance efficiency, the State Department endeavours to fastrack amendment of various laws to eliminate duplicate or overlaps of functions.

To ensure professionalism in the health workforce and enhance the safety of Kenyans, we are mapping all health cadres to ensure that they are all properly regulated.

In view of the tight fiscal space, the PS emphasized the need for prudent use of available resources.

The ultimate goal of convening was to ensure all arms of the State Department are aligned to the Government's strategic direction which is to deliver Universal Health Coverage through the Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda model(BETA).
