Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa Signs Key Agreement with Mombasa County to Enhance Kenya's Healthcare System

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa signed the Intergovernmental Participation Agreement (IPA) with Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, setting the stage for transformative healthcare improvements. During the event, Dr. Barasa officially handed over registration gadgets to support Mombasa County’s transition to digital health systems.
Dr. Barasa emphasized the progress of integrating NIIMS data into the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration process, which now covers over 17.5 million Kenyans. She commended Mombasa County’s leadership in increasing registration numbers and adopting paperless systems to enhance healthcare delivery.
The distributed gadgets will strengthen referral mechanisms, disease surveillance, and community health promoters programs, while also digitizing health facility operations. Dr. Barasa affirmed that this milestone will serve as a model for other counties as the Ministry continues to collaborate with governors nationwide.
Key government officials, including Hon. Moses Kuria, the President’s Advisor, were also present at the event.
