Call for collective efforts towards a drug free Kenya
Kakamega , 2025 The three day sensitization workshop on drug and substance abuse in Kakamega County hosted by the Ministry of Health concluded with a public baraza .
The event brought together stakeholders from the National Government, County Governments, various organisations in drug and substance abuse control and the general public from the Western region.
The forum focused on raising awareness and sensitizing the community about the dangers of drug and substance abuse, with an emphasis on the rising use of novel tobacco and nicotine products.
Statistics revealed high levels of marijuana and chang'aa abuse in the region, highlighting the urgent need for stronger enforcement, community engagement, and policy interventions.
The Chairperson of the Tobacco Control Board, Dr. Naomi Shaaban, and the Deputy County Commissioner of Kakamega Central, Mrs. Christine Chacha, graced the occasion.
