CS Aden Duale Commissions Cath Lab at Tenwek Hospital, Strengthens Advanced Cardiac Care
Bomet, January 21, 2026 - Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, marking a significant boost to cardiac and vascular care in Kenya. The state-of-the-art facility will support minimally invasive cardiac diagnostics and treatment, expand access to life-saving heart services, reduce referrals abroad, and strengthen comprehensive heart care locally.
While touring the 176-bed facility, the Cabinet Secretary noted that Tenwek is the only centre in Kenya dedicated exclusively to cardiology and the only cardiothoracic centre in East and Sub-Saharan Africa, positioning the country as a regional hub for advanced cardiac care.
Equipped with 17 operating theatres and 44 ICU and HDU beds, the hospital serves over 234,000 patients, underscoring its regional reach and contribution to the realisation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
As part of the Bomet County visit, Hon. Duale also unveiled the Bomet Health Centre Service Charter, reinforcing the Ministry’s directive for the mandatory adoption of service charters across all public and private health facilities to promote transparency, curb overcharging, and safeguard patients’ rights.
