CS Duale Hosts WHO Delegation for High-Level Talks on Advancing Health System Reforms
Nairobi, Kenya - - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale met a World Health Organization (WHO) delegation led by Prof. Mohamed Yakur Janabi for a high-level bilateral discussion on strengthening quality healthcare in Kenya and across the region.
The meeting reaffirmed the directive by the Head of State to develop concrete measures that reinforce service delivery, protect programme integrity, and build stronger regional health capabilities.
Discussions focused on operationalising WHO’s Regional Emergency and Logistics Hub in Nairobi to support rapid response to disease outbreaks and humanitarian crises, and strengthening the National Public Health Institute with support in governance, surveillance, laboratory systems, data management, and surge workforce models.
The delegation also explored the domestication of the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing mechanism under the Pandemic Treaty, advancing Kenya’s journey towards WHO Maturity Level 3 for health product regulation, and enhancing healthcare financing through the Social Health Authority to fast-track Universal Health Coverage.
WHO AFRO further expressed interest in showcasing Kenya’s health sector reforms during the WHO Regional World Health Summit in in Nairobi, highlighting African-led innovations in health systems strengthening.
The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the Taifa Care Model, scaling up quality healthcare, and enhancing regional emergency preparedness.
He was joined by Principal Secretaries Dr Ouma Oluga and Ms Mary Muthoni, Director-General Dr Patrick Amoth, and WHO Country Director Dr Adielle Onyenze.
