Government Hands Over Refurbished Gatundu Level 5 Hospital to Kiambu County
Kiambu, Kenya - - The Ministry of Health has officially transferred the newly refurbished Gatundu Level 5 Hospital to the Kiambu County Government, marking a major step forward in strengthening service delivery under Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The ceremony was led by the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga.
The hospital has undergone comprehensive upgrades over the past five years, resulting in expanded infrastructure, modern medical equipment, and increased service capacity. The handover fulfils the commitments outlined in a 2020 Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health, the Kiambu County Government, and the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Speaking at the event, Dr Oluga reaffirmed the government’s resolve to make quality healthcare accessible to every Kenyan. He noted that investments in health systems—equipment, skilled personnel, and sustainable financing—are essential to ensuring care is delivered without financial hardship.
“This facility demonstrates our vision for a health sector where inputs are seen as investments, not expenses. It is part of our collective effort to ensure healthcare is not a burden, but a right,” he said.
