Health Cabinet Secretary Announces Expansion of Cancer Care Package and Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Health under SHA

Nairobi, 27 November 2025 – Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today reiterated the Presidential directive to expand the Cancer Care Package under the Social Health Authority (SHA) from KSh 550,000 to KSh 800,000, effective 1st December 2025. The expansion aims to make lifesaving cancer treatment accessible to all Kenyans, irrespective of income.

Speaking during the Joyful Women 16th Thanksgiving Ceremony at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Hon. Duale also highlighted the Ministry’s collaboration with key stakeholders, including Roche, which has reduced the cost of Herceptin breast cancer therapy from KSh 120,000 to KSh 40,000 per session. The treatment is now fully covered under SHA, with zero out-of-pocket payments across all contracted facilities.

Under the theme “Jiunge Nasi – Join Us,” the event celebrated the resilience and growth of Kenyan women. Hon. Duale emphasised Kenya’s sustainable healthcare financing model under SHA, noting that good health is a cornerstone of a productive and stable economy.

He highlighted ongoing reforms in women’s health through initiatives such as the Linda Jamii scheme, which provides comprehensive support to households, with over 22,000 teenage mothers already benefiting.

Reflecting on 16 years of women’s economic empowerment, Hon. Duale encouraged all women to register under SHA, joining more than 27 million Kenyans already enrolled, to access expanded maternal and newborn services.

“Maternal health remains a national priority, and we are committed to ensuring that every woman—whether in urban centres or the most remote areas—has access to safe pregnancy, safe delivery, and dignified, quality healthcare,” he affirmed.

The ceremony, graced by H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto and H.E. Rachel Ruto, has empowered 250,000 women across 44 counties.
