Health Cabinet Secretary Attends Women's Optimal Health Framework Launch in Uganda

ย February 9, 2024 - Entebbe, Uganda

ย Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula represented First Lady H.E. Rachel Ruto at the launch of the Women's Optimal Health Framework in Entebbe, Uganda, on February 9th.

Hosted by First Lady H.E. Janette Museveni, the event aimed to improve women's health and well-being through evidence-based interventions, aligning with the AdGen3 strategy for adolescent health.

Addressing the gathering at State House Uganda, Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula emphasized the importance of prioritizing women's health, stating, "We cannot achieve UHC if women are marginalized and their health is not prioritized.ย

Our agenda today must acknowledge the crucial role that women play, including leadership. Women are inherently caregivers and healthcare workers in their families."

Despite ongoing challenges such as gender-based violence, maternal mortality, and increasing non-communicable diseases like breast and cervical cancer, the CS said Kenya's commitment to healthcare remains steadfast.

She noted, under the leadership of H.E. William Ruto, the country launched Universal Health Coverage. In October last year, Kenya deployed 100,000 community health promoters, with 60% being women. These promoters are equipped with kits and stipends to provide healthcare in households, focusing on treatment, prevention, and promotion of health.

The Women's Optimal Health Framework launch underscores the collective effort to address women's health needs and promote well-being across East Africa.
