Health CS Duale Engages Parliament on 2025/26 Budget Priorities
Nairobi, Kenya - 15th May 2025 - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today met the National Assembly Departmental Committee for Health, led by Hon. James Nyikal, to discuss the 2025/26 budget for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards.
He announced the East Africa Kidney Institute (EAKI) will open in July as a regional center of excellence for renal care, equipped with 44 dialysis machines, marking a major milestone in advancing Universal Health Coverage.
Hon. Duale also outlined reforms at KEMSA aimed at improving drug availability, with health centers now set to directly pay KEMSA for supplies through the Social Health Authority, bypassing county revenue systems to enhance efficiency.
He further revealed plans to sign MoUs with select hospitals, including Aga Khan, to provide affordable kidney transplant services at SHA rates.
On workforce quality, the CS emphasized the reinspection of health training institutions by KMPDC to enforce standards and announced that postgraduate training will align with national health priorities and resources.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and accelerating quality healthcare delivery through the allocated budget.
The CS was accompanied by PS Mary Muthoni, DG Dr. Patrick Amoth, senior ministry officials, and CEOs of SAGAs.
