Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, has announced plans to upgrade the Nakuru County Regional Cancer Centre into a major referral facility serving 24 counties—aimed at expanding access to cancer treatment in underserved regions. The initiative forms a key pillar of the Taifa Care Model and supports the government’s goal of equitable, accessible healthcare for all.

The upgrade will be implemented under the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP), a fee-for-service leasing model. Through this initiative, Nakuru County will receive state-of-the-art medical equipment across key health facilities—including CT scans in Molo and Bahati, dialysis and mammography services at Annex, and specialized laboratories, X-rays, ultrasounds, and theatres in several sub-county hospitals.

“Every machine means one more mother diagnosed, one more life saved, one more Kenyan getting the care they deserve,” stated CS Duale during a press briefing in Nakuru.

The CS also emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to strict pharmaceutical regulation. He reiterated that pharmacies will not be allowed to dispense medication without authorization from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), ensuring that only qualified professionals handle drugs and that the safety and quality of medicines are upheld across the country.
