Health CS Hon. Aden Duale Backs Devolution as a Pillar of UHC at 2025 State of Devolution Address

๐๐š๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐›๐ข, ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale joined Council of Governors Chairperson and Wajir Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi, alongside other leaders, at the 2025 Annual State of Devolution Address held at the CoG Headquarters in Nairobi. Marking 12 years of devolution, CS Duale reaffirmed its pivotal role in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and urged both levels of government to maintain strong collaboration in delivering accessible and equitable healthcare.

Themed โ€œFor the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice,โ€ the State of Devolution Report highlighted key health milestones:

โ€ข 24.4 million Kenyans registered under the Social Health Insurance Authority (SHA)

โ€ข 8,316 tablets distributed to support digital health systems

โ€ข 75 PSA oxygen plants installed, with 59 operational and 86% oxygen coverage in public facilities

โ€ข 541 facilities assessed under NESP, 28 counties offering services, and over 29,000 services rendered

โ€ข 226,434 healthcare workers engaged across sectors

โ€ข 107,831 Community Health Promoters deployed nationwide

In attendance were CoG Vice Chair and Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga, German Deputy Ambassador to Kenya Mr. Alexander Fierley, Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga (Medical Services), Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards), Mr. Michael Lenasalon (Devolution), governors from across the country, and senior national and county government officials.
